Evil Geniuses May Lose ESL Pro League Partner Status
The North American esports organization Evil Geniuses may lose its status as an ESL Pro League partner. According to the rules of the league, the team risks losing permanent membership in the championship if they finish bottom of the group three times in two years.
Recall that Evil Geniuses became a partner of the ESL Pro League at the beginning of 2020, when it signed the so-called "Louvre Agreement" along with other organizations, including NAVI, Astralis and other famous clubs. However, the rules state that a team can lose its partner status if it finishes last in the group stage in three of the four championships.
The North American team finished the last two seasons of the ESL Pro League on the last line, having won only one victory in total. Therefore, if Evil Geniuses repeats the result within the framework of ESL Pro League Season 15 or ESL Pro League Season 16, it will lose the status of a league partner.
Note that the rule is optional, since the final word remains with the ESL Pro League. In addition, ESL recently launched a global support program for North American teams, which may also be a reason not to deprive Evil Geniuses of their partner status.
ESL Pro League Season 15 will take place from March 9 to April 10 in Cologne. 24 teams will compete for a prize pool of $823,000, a ticket to the BLAST World Final 2022, as well as EPT and BLAST Premier ranking points.
Recall that earlier ESL banned Virtus.pro and Gambit from participating. However, players can compete at ESL Pro League Season 15 under neutral status without resorting to the support of their organizations.
