Open qualifiers for IEM Rio Major 2022 will start in August
Tournament operator ESL, responsible for hosting the upcoming IEM Rio Major 2022, has revealed the first details of the qualifying process for the first-ever Major in Brazil. Open qualifiers for RMR tournaments will begin in August and will be held in seven regions (Europe, North and South America, China, Oceania, Middle East and Asia).
IEM Road to Rio, which has become an analogue of RMR tournaments, will be held from October 3 to 9 and will cover three unified regions: Europe, America and Asia. In order to qualify for the IEM Road to Rio, teams will need to complete their respective regional qualifiers starting in August. Divided into 7 regions and a total of 22 open and closed qualifiers, teams will compete for the right to qualify for IEM Rio Major 2022.

- First open qualifier: August 15-17.
- Second open qualifier: August 18-20.
- Third open qualifier: August 22-24.
- Fourth Open Qualifier: August 26-28.
North America:
- First open qualifier: August 15-17.
- Second open qualifier: 31 August - 2 September.
- Third Open Qualifier: September 3-5.
South America:
- First open qualifier: August 15-17.
- Second open qualifier: August 20-22.
- Third open qualifier: August 25-27.
Oceania:
- First open qualifier: August 15-16.
- Second open qualifier: August 20-21.
- Closed qualification: August 27-28.
China:
- First open qualifier: August 15-16.
- Second open qualifier: August 20-21.
- Closed qualification: August 27-28.
Asia:
- First open qualifier: August 15-16.
- Second open qualifier: August 20-21.
- Closed qualification: August 27-28.
Near East:
- First open qualifier: August 15-16.
- Second open qualifier: August 20-21.

As you can see, the only difference from the spring qualifiers for the major is the presence of closed qualifiers for the enlarged Asian region. Recall that earlier the winners of each sub-region immediately got to the RMR tournament.

While the allocation of slots for the Contenders stage always remains the same: three for Europe, three for the Americas and two for Asia, the allocation for the Legends and Challengers stages is directly related to the results of the previous Major.

IEM Rio Major 2022 will be held from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil. The first two stages of the championship will be held in a studio format. However, the playoffs of IEM Rio Major 2022, which is scheduled for November 10-13, will be held at the Jeunesse Arena, which can accommodate from 15,000 to 22,000 people. Like at the last Major, the prize pool of IEM Rio Major 2022 will be $1,000,000.
