
The seeding of participants in European RMR tournaments for IEM Rio Major 2022 has changed
Tournament operator ESL has approved the final distribution of participants in RMR tournaments for Europe. In light of the recent collapse of the Copenhagen Flames roster, the organizers have redistributed the places of the teams in the respective championships according to the new classification based on the results of the previous major.
Following the announcement of the IEM Road to Rio Open Qualifier dates, we wanted to share more information about each Regional Qualifier and the guidelines to follow. All qualifying matches will be played in single-elimination bracket format, while all decisive matches will be played in BO3 format.
Changes made since the original announcement;
- The second open European qualifier for IEM Road to Rio has been rescheduled for August 20-22. The changes are related to inconsistencies in the schedule with other championships.
- The second open qualifier for IEM Road to Rio for Oceania has been rescheduled for August 22-23. The changes are related to inconsistencies in the schedule with other championships.
Rules regarding coaches:
- Coaching on the server is prohibited.
- Coaches and other employees are not allowed to be seen or heard during official online matches.
- Coaches may not be present in the room with the players and participate in online negotiations in any form during official online matches.
The collapse of the Copenhagen Flames roster led to a redistribution of places in the groups of the following teams: BIG, Heroic, Outsiders, Cloud9, G2 Esports and Bad News Eagles. The first three will compete in the first RMR tournament, and the last three in the second.

- FURIA, Imperial Esports, Team Liquid + 7 South American open qualifiers + 6 North American open qualifiers.

- Asia Closed Qualifier Winner, Oceania Closed Qualifier Winner, Middle East Closed Qualifier Winner, China Closed Qualifier Winner.

As you can see, the main difference from the spring qualifiers for the major is the presence of closed qualifiers for the enlarged Asian region. Recall that earlier the winners of each sub-region immediately got to the RMR tournament.









IEM Rio Major 2022 will be held from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil. The first two stages of the championship will be held in a studio format. However, the playoffs of IEM Rio Major 2022, which is scheduled for November 10-13, will be held at the Jeunesse Arena, which can accommodate from 15,000 to 22,000 people. Like at the last major, the prize pool of IEM Rio Major 2022 will be $1,000,000.
