Valve updated the format of The International 11
On the night of January 22, Valve announced the dates for the regional finals, which will take place in February instead of the canceled Winter Major. At the same time, the company spoke about the innovations that await The International series tournaments in the foreseeable future.
The updated format of The International 2022
- A total of 20 teams will play at the tournament: the top 12 will go to the final tournament of the year according to the DPC rating, 6 teams will go through regional qualifications, 2 will get to TI11 from the Wild Card.
- Valve is returning the Wild Card format: before the start of TI 11, a mini-tournament will be held in a LAN format for 12 teams. The list of Wild Card participants will be formed from the clubs that took 2nd and 3rd place in the regional qualifiers. The format of the event will be announced later.
- Teams at TI 22 will be divided into 2 groups of 10 clubs each. As a result of the group stage, 4 teams will leave the tournament, instead of 2, as was the case at The International in previous years.
Before The International 2022, Valve plans to hold 2 more scheduled majors, which should take place in the spring and summer of this year. Details regarding the final championships of the second and third cycles of the DPC 2021/22 Valve promise to be made public in a few weeks.
