ESL has updated its ranking rules

Tournament operator ESL has updated the rules for the formation of its rating. The main changes concern the North American teams, which will now be given more attention during the compilation of the ESL World Ranking.

Last April, ESL reduced the number of qualifying North American teams from 12 to 8 due to points inflation in the region, assuming. Since then, the tournament operator has been monitoring the situation in the region, as well as receiving feedback from North American teams.

According to ESL, the Match Score decides which tournaments EPT Points will be allocated to. In order to be eligible for points, each championship must have 3 teams at the top of the ESL World Ranking for that region. However, currently the best teams in the region play in Europe, while other teams are noticeably behind them in the rankings.

The main subject of controversy was the ESL Challenger League Season 40: North America tournament, which does not offer participants EPT points, although it is the starting point for participation in the EPL Conference S16.

After consulting with North American teams, ESL has released updated ranking rules:

• The number of qualifying teams in the NA region is being increased from 8 to 10. This will reportedly increase the number of tournaments eligible for EPT Points to compensate for the absence of Team Liquid, Complexity and Evil Geniuses in the region.
  
• ESL Challenger League Season 40: North America participants will receive EPT Points. The new rules will apply to the next championships in the region.
  
• ESL intends to continue to strengthen the North American scene through other initiatives.

ESL expects the rule change will create more opportunities for teams in the region to move up the rankings, which is ultimately used to invite them to upcoming tournaments and qualifiers.
