Another game of DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division Tour II reaches its conclusion. Team Liquid and Monaspa will play in the final clash on 29 March.

Both clubs are showing quite a weighty dota in the new season, but are drastically different in terms of their level of play. Their situation is also very different.

Team Liquid are at the top of the group table. The team has 4 wins in 5 matches.

Monaspa are on the 4th line of the regular season, sharing it with 4 other teams. The squad has 2 wins and 3 losses.

Trying to figure out if Monaspa has even an imaginary chance of winning against Liquid. On the other hand, will Liquid be able to pick up their 5th win unhindered and actually secure a ticket to The Berlin Major 2023.

Team Liquid form

We'll start the review with the obvious - Team Liquid's form. In this match-up they are expected to be the favourites.

The bookmakers have already decided the Liquid's outcome. They are already betting 1.07 on them to win this match.

Such a figure in such a situation is an obvious thing. Liquid have made mistakes this season, but the closer they get to the final, the higher the concentration of the top team.

Team Liquid had roster problems in the new season. This was due to the illness of Boxi who has already made a full recovery and regained his form.

There's not much to say about Team Liquid's line-up in the context of the match against Monaspa. The players are literally of a different class, which will mean their quick win against the Greeks.

Starting with the lanes, Liquid will grab an advantage that they will not let up. This was done against top teams, and with Monaspa it will be much easier to execute something similar.

Team Liquid's performance

Last season Team Liquid played almost flawlessly in the top flight. The team did not lose a single series while giving up only two cards.

Having made it to the Lima Major 2023, Team Liquid were placed in Group B, where they eventually proved their mettle. "Liquid" won their basket, closing with a score of 14-2, exactly the same as the DPC season.

As the Lima Major 2023 playoffs progressed, the team was well on their way to the grand final, but before the final wingers Boxi was forced to leave the tournament for health reasons. Thus Team Liquid fell to the bottom of the net.

In the losers, the Liquid managed to eliminate Talon and return to the top net final, where the Gladiators awaited them. With a replacement in the slot of four, Liquid were unable to compete with GG and lost.

In the first match of the second round, DPC Team Liquid extended their losing streak. Gaimin Gladiators did away with the Liquid with a score of 2-0.

Next up was a game against OG. The latter look miserable in the new round and they expectedly blew the series as Liquid closed the match 2-0 without any problems.

In the third match of DPC 2023 WEU Upper Division - Tour II, Team Liquid played against Nigma Galaxy. The match ended in Liquid's favour, but not without problems, 2-1 for the Liquid.

Next up, it was a very fluid match. Liquid easily shut down Entity, leaving them no chance on two maps.

In the fifth match Team Liquid played against Tundra Esports. The reigning champions of The International could not keep up with the pace of the Liquid and lost on two maps, and lost resoundingly, leaving no chance for success.

Team Liquid heroes

The most popular hero of the last round for Team Liquid was Treant Protector. The character appeared in spades 13 times and had a 76% win rate.

Nature`s Prophet and Tiny were also popular. Both appeared in spades 8 times, but the first has a win rate of 87% and the second has a win rate of 75.

There were also Tusk (7 games, 71% wins), Rubick (7 games, 57% wins), Snapfire (5 games, 100% wins).

Form Monaspa

Continuing the game breakdown with an analysis of Monaspa's form. In this match, they are playing in catch-up status.

The odds for the Greeks to win the match are at 7. The figure is not surprising.

What can a team from the second division oppose a team of Liquid's level. Nothing, obviously.

The Monaspa line-up

The Monaspa roster has some good players, but they are not comparable to Liquid's level. As discussed below, even at the laning stage, the match will be over.

Although the team managed to make two wins, this in no way characterizes them as a stable team. Undoubtedly, well done, but there's no need to hope for a win against Liquid.

It's more rational to prepare for the next games with a 2-5 scoreline. In the current realities of the Western European division, such statistics will be a completely workable start to potentially retain their roster.

Monaspa performance

Monaspa finished Western Europe's second division with a 5-2 statistic. After the scheduled games, they had to play in round-robin replay for 3 teams.

During the regular season Monaspa managed to beat Ancien Tribe, Alliance, Bald Reborn, Water Rune Enjoyer and most importantly Ooredoo Thunders. They could have claimed the top spot had they not stumbled over D2 Huslters and Ivy, who lost 0-2 each.

Outside of the DPC ecosystem, they played in third-party events. The team finished in the top 6 at European Pro League Season 6, also won Winter Cup 2022.

From the more serious events was BB Universe: Episode I - Comics Zone. In the more serious company, Monaspa failed to prove themselves and finished in the Top-12 at that tournament.

In the first game at DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division Monaspa faced Ooredoo Thunders. Monaspa defeated their arch-rivals 2-0 without much trouble.

In the next match Monaspa played against Entity. The title team was expectedly stronger and ended the match 2-0.

Next Monaspa played against Gaimin Gladiators. What should have ended 2-0 turned into a full-fledged bo3 with lingering maps, but still the Gladiators proved to be stronger.

Next, the team played against Nigma Galaxy. They should have won, but the breakdown went 2-0 in favour of Nigma.

Before the match with Team Liquid, Monaspa played against OG. Unexpectedly, the Greeks outclassed OG on two cards and did it tastefully.

Monaspa Heroes

Playing the meta, without much experimentation, but with a splash of "their" characters. The most chosen hero is Rubick (26 matches, 65% wins).

Undying (20 games, 80% wins), Leshrac (18 games, 77% wins), Viper (18 games, 66% wins), Earthshaker (18 games, 55% wins) are often used.

Also playing Snapfire (16 games, 43% wins). Beastmaster (15 games, 40% wins) has about the same disappointing win rate.

History of head-to-head encounters

The teams have not played each other in head-to-head encounters before. This will be the teams' debut head-to-head encounter.

Result of the match

I see no point in ranting about the outcome of the match. Everything in this game is fairly prosaic.

Team Liquid will close out the series without any problems and we can't imagine any other outcome. The only thing that will give Monaspa any chance of winning is the element of surprise.

Bottom line: Liquid win 2-0.
