DPC 2023 Tour 2: World champion leadership, mediocre start from NAVI and other events
The rivalry in the second part of the DPC ranking season is already in full swing. For over a week now, the top teams have been competing in 6 regions to earn prize money, the coveted DPC points needed to qualify for The International 2023 as well as slots for the second Major tournament of the season, The Berlin Major 2023. In this article we will take a quick look at the situation in all regions' first divisions.
Western Europe
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | Tundra Esports | 3-0 | 6-0 |
2 | Entity | 2-1 | 4-3 |
3 | Gaimin Gladiators | 2-1 | 5-3 |
4 | Team Liquid | 2-1 | 4-3 |
5 | Monaspa | 1-2 | 3-4 |
6 | OG | 1-2 | 2-4 |
7 | Ooredoo Thunders | 1-2 | 2-5 |
8 | Nigma Galaxy | 0-3 | 2-6 |
In the first division of Eastern Europe, the reigning world champions from Tundra Esports got off to a great start. They go on a 3 game winning streak without losing a single map. Entity, Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid are also expected to stay in the green zone. The aforementioned teams are the main contenders for the trip to Berlin. Pleasantly surprising were Monaspa, the Georgian-Greek mix has already earned one win against Ooredoo Thunders, but lost to stronger opponents. OG have not been happy with their performance so far, without a change in their game the team could potentially miss their second Major in a row. The main disappointment was the team of Nigma Galaxy. KuroKy and the team struggled to keep their slot in the first division and so far the trend continues. Extremely lacklustre play from extremely high profile players.
Fans can expect both outright passing matches like Nigma Galaxy vs Ooredoo Thunders this week, as well as battles between the strongest teams. Noteworthy will be the duels between Team Liquid and Entity, and also OG and Gaimin Gladiators.
Eastern Europe
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | HellRaisers | 3-0 | 6-1 |
2 | Team Spirit | 3-0 | 6-3 |
3 | BetBoom Team | 2-1 | 5-3 |
4 | HYDRA | 2-2 | 6-4 |
5 | Natus Vincere | 1-2 | 2-5 |
6 | One Move | 1-3 | 5-7 |
7 | Darkside | 0-3 | 1-6 |
8 | Virtus.pro | 0-1 | 0-2 |
HellRaisers and Team Spirit, champions of The International 2021, were the best performers at the end of the first week. A 3-0 statistic gives them a decent chance of qualifying for The Berlin Major 2023. Not bad for HYDRA, the team that recently made it to the first division, has made a decent showing in the second. Natus Vincere can still boast only a 2-1 victory over Darkside with 2 defeats, but it should be taken into account that the organization represents the new squad that previously played in the second division. Darkside have played the worst so far. 3 defeats in a row to SoNNeikO and the team is not optimistic.
This week, we advise not to miss the clash between Team Spirit and Natus Vincere. Yatoro and his teammates will be a worthy test for the young squad of the Ukrainian club.
China
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | Team Aster | 3-0 | 6-0 |
2 | PSG.LGD | 2-0 | 4-0 |
3 | Vici Gaming | 2-1 | 4-2 |
4 | Xtreme Gaming | 2-0 | 4-1 |
5 | Aster.Aries | 1-2 | 2-4 |
6 | Ybb Gaming | 1-2 | 2-5 |
7 | Invictus Gaming | 0-3 | 2-6 |
8 | Outsiders from CN | 0-3 | 0-6 |
China suffered a series of upheavals at the end of The Lima Major 2023. Knights and EHOME were eliminated from the ranking season due to their involvement in match fixing, so the first division was filled with teams like Ybb Gaming, Vici Gaming and Outsiders from CN. On the whole, things are fairly stable in the Celestial Empire. Team Aster and PSG.LGD are still in the top 2, confirming their status as the strongest teams in the region. Of the newcomers, Vici Gaming were able to stand out, defeating Ybb and Outsiders. Invictus Gaming were one step away from relegation to the second division last round, now history may repeat itself. Pyw and the team have lost three matches in a row.
Dota 2 fans shouldn't miss all of PSG.LGD's matches and also watch the Vici Gaming vs Team Aster encounter. The top Chinese teams should show some spectacular play.
Southeast Asia
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | Army Geniuses | 3-1 | 6-4 |
2 | Execration | 3-1 | 6-2 |
3 | Talon Esports | 3-0 | 6-1 |
4 | Team SMG | 3-0 | 6-0 |
5 | Bleed Esports | 1-2 | 3-4 |
6 | Blacklist International | 0-3 | 1-6 |
7 | Geek Slate | 0-3 | 1-6 |
8 | Polaris Esports | 0-3 | 0-6 |
The level of competition in South East Asia is noticeably lower than in other regions. There are currently 3 clear underdogs and teams that will be battling for places in the top 3. The favourites are Army Geniuses, Execration, Team SMG and Talon Esports. They have already earned three wins each. Geek Slate, Blacklist International and Polaris Esports have a very weak start and will be fighting for survival in the first division.
This week we will enjoy a match between Talon Esports and Team SMG. On top of that, 23savage and team will face off against Execration.
North America
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | TSM | 3-0 | 6-1 |
2 | nouns | 2-0 | 4-0 |
3 | Shopify Rebellion | 2-1 | 5-2 |
4 | Team DogChamp | 2-1 | 4-4 |
5 | B8 | 1-2 | 2-5 |
6 | felt | 1-2 | 3-4 |
7 | 5RATFORCESTAFF | 0-3 | 1-6 |
8 | Wildcard Gaming | 0-2 | 1-4 |
In North America, there are traditionally three teams that claim two slots in the Major. They are TSM, nouns and Shopify Rebellion, formerly known as Evil Geniuses. And the situation has not changed, these teams started the first division with wins and only Shopify Rebellion with two wins lost to TSM. B8 kept their place in the first division and are already in the middle of the standings with a score of 1-2. Dendi and his team are unlikely to go to Berlin, but they should keep playing in the division.
There are no particular highlights in the region this week, so it is advisable to keep an eye on the fixtures of the favourites, and also keep an eye on the performances of B8. The Ukrainian side in North America could be gaining some momentum.
South America
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | beastcoast | 4-0 | 8-3 |
2 | Evil Geniuses | 4-0 | 8-2 |
3 | Infamous.R | 2-2 | 6-6 |
4 | Keyd Stars | 2-2 | 5-5 |
5 | Thunder Awaken | 2-2 | 5-5 |
6 | Infinity | 1-3 | 5-7 |
7 | Alliance.LATAM | 0-3 | 2-6 |
8 | Qhali | 0-3 | 1-6 |
From South America it is likely that beastcoast and Evil Geniuses will go to The Berlin Major 2023, as they did in the Lima Major. Both big names are on a 4-game winning streak, and they are also the main contenders for a spot in the top-2. Weak play from Qhali comes as no surprise, but Alliance, who have lost 3 matches in a row, does. The team finished the previous round in third place, but are now in danger of relegation to the second division.
Of this week's remaining matches, we suggest watching the clash between Thunder Awaken and Infamous.R. These teams have a 2-2 statistic and will clearly want to cement themselves in the top half of the standings.
