DPC 2023 Tour 2: OG in last place, Talon Esports and Team SMG first participants in The Berlin Major
The second game week of the second round of the DPC 2023 ranking season is over. Most of the tour has already been played and it is slowly becoming clear which teams will go to the Major in Berlin, and which will have to go down to the second division. The top teams compete in 6 regions for prize money, ranking points needed to get to The International, as well as slots to The Berlin Major. The week before last you can read about the situation in the feature story.
Western Europe
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | Gaimin Gladiators | 3-1 | 7-3 |
2 | Team Liquid | 3-1 | 6-3 |
3 | Tundra Esports | 3-1 | 6-2 |
4 | Entity | 2-2 | 4-5 |
5 | Monaspa | 2-3 | 5-6 |
6 | Nigma Galaxy | 2-3 | 6-6 |
7 | Ooredoo Thunders | 2-3 | 4-7 |
8 | OG | 1-4 | 2-8 |
The first division of Western Europe at the end of the second week prompts two interesting conclusions. Firstly, OG need to do something about both their squad and their team play. They lost not only to Gaimin Gladiators, which is acceptable, but also to Ooredoo Thunders 0-2. OT were previously known for their performance in the second division and small local tournaments. OG now have a real chance of going for relegation with a 1-4 statistic. Secondly, Nigma Galaxy were able to rehabilitate themselves after an extremely poor start and are now in the yellow zone, meaning they have every chance of keeping their place in the first division.
The Tundra Esports clash against Ooredoo Thunders is worth a special mention. The International 2022 champions, being the clear favourites, could not cope with kaori and the team. Moreover, they lost by a scoreline of 0-2. Tundra Esports are likely to go to The Berlin Major anyway, but the result is sensational.
This week all four teams who will go to Berlin from Western Europe will be determined. The names of three of them are already known. They will be Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid and Tundra Esports. And for the remaining slot will fight Entity, Nigma Galaxy, Monaspa and Ooredoo Thunders. OG will be faced with the task of at least securing a place in the division.
Eastern Europe
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | HellRaisers | 5-0 | 10-1 |
2 | Team Spirit | 5-0 | 10-3 |
3 | BetBoom Team | 3-2 | 7-6 |
4 | HYDRA | 2-4 | 7-8 |
5 | Virtus.pro | 2-1 | 4-3 |
6 | Natus Vincere | 1-3 | 2-7 |
7 | One Move | 1-4 | 6-9 |
8 | Darkside | 0-5 | 1-10 |
The second week for Eastern Europe was generally without any surprises. HellRaisers and Team Spirit still lead the region without a loss. Natus Vincere and One Move slipped slightly, and Darkside have established themselves as candidates for relegation to the second division. Of all the teams, Virtus.pro improved their position well, with two wins over Darkside and One Move.
This region will also be the main battle for the last slot, as Team Spirit and HellRaisers are already unlikely to give up their places. All Dota 2 fans should not miss the match between Team Spirit and HellRaisers on March 1. Two of the strongest teams in Eastern Europe will determine who is the best of the best.
China
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | PSG.LGD | 4-0 | 8-0 |
2 | Team Aster | 4-0 | 8-0 |
3 | Xtreme Gaming | 4-1 | 8-3 |
4 | Invictus Gaming | 2-3 | 6-6 |
5 | Vici Gaming | 2-3 | 4-6 |
6 | Aster.Aries | 1-4 | 2-8 |
7 | Ybb Gaming | 1-3 | 2-7 |
8 | Outsiders from CN | 0-4 | 0-8 |
In China, Ybb Gaming managed to get their first win over Invictus Gaming. The latter, in turn, defeated Aster.Aries and Vici Gaming to improve their position in the standings. The teams PSG.LGD, Team Aster and Xtreme Gaming retain their undisputed lead. And Outsiders from CN have a streak of four straight losses and are likely to leave the first division.
The showdown between Invictus Gaming and PSG.LGD should not be missed, as well as Team Aster and Xtreme Gaming. The cherry on the Chinese cake will be the match between PSG.LGD and Team Aster, which will be the last match in the first division, unless of course we have a series of tiebreakers ahead of us.
Southeast Asia
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | Talon Esports | 5-0 | 10-2 |
2 | Team SMG | 5-1 | 11-2 |
3 | Army Geniuses | 4-2 | 8-7 |
4 | Execration | 3-2 | 6-4 |
5 | Blacklist International | 1-3 | 3-6 |
6 | Bleed Esports | 1-3 | 3-6 |
7 | Geek Slate | 0-4 | 1-8 |
8 | Polaris Esports | 0-4 | 1-8 |
Last week decided the names of the two teams guaranteed to go to The Berlin Major. They are Talon Esports and Team SMG, who currently stand at 5-0 and 5-1 respectively. Army Geniuses and Execration will fight for the last vacant spot. Geek Slate and Polaris Esports are the worst performing teams, with no wins in four matches.
Perhaps the main encounter of the last week will be the match between Army Geniuses and Execration. A trip to Berlin would be a significant achievement for Army Geniuses, as the team has only recently risen from the second division.
North America
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | nouns | 4-0 | 8-0 |
2 | TSM | 4-0 | 8-2 |
3 | B8 | 3-2 | 6-6 |
4 | Shopify Rebellion | 3-1 | 7-2 |
5 | felt | 2-3 | 6-7 |
6 | Team DogChamp | 2-3 | 4-8 |
7 | 5RATFORCESTAFF | 0-5 | 2-10 |
8 | Wildcard Gaming | 0-4 | 2-8 |
The uncontested leaders in North America are traditionally the nouns and TSM, who go on a four-game winning streak. Shopify Rebellion's line-up, formerly of Evil Geniuses, has now fallen somewhat out of the race for the top-2 due to one loss. The performance of B8 is worth highlighting. Last week the Ukrainian team under Dendi won two games and lost one, taking the team to the third spot in the standings. 5RATFORCESTAFF and Wildcard Gaming did not win a single match in a fortnight, which hints at their downgrade.
North American Dota 2 fans will have something to watch in the final week. Don't miss the TSM vs. nouns match that will determine the strongest in the region, as well as all the bouts involving B8 and Shopify Rebellion.
South America
Place | Team name | Match score | Map score |
1 | beastcoast | 5-0 | 10-3 |
2 | Evil Geniuses | 5-0 | 10-2 |
3 | Thunder Awaken | 3-2 | 7-6 |
4 | Infamous.R | 2-3 | 7-8 |
5 | Infinity | 2-3 | 7-8 |
6 | Keyd Stars | 2-3 | 5-7 |
7 | Alliance.LATAM | 1-4 | 4-8 |
8 | Qhali | 0-5 | 2-10 |
As in North America, there are two slots at stake for The Berlin Major in South America. Similar to the previous region, there are two teams here that are virtually guaranteed to go to Berlin. They are beastcoast and Evil Geniuses, who at the time of writing boast a 5-0 record. Alliance's South American line-up looks to be the region's biggest disappointment so far. The legendary tag is 1-4 and has lost two matches in the past week. The team still has a chance of retaining a place in the first division, but no more than that. The weakest link in the region has been club Qhali, who have lost five consecutive matches.
The match between beastcoast and Evil Geniuses should not be missed as it will be a clash between the best teams in the region and a great test of strength before the Major tournament.
